Draw a thick black line on a sheet of paper and the little engine follows it — round corners, through loops, into whatever route a child invents. Sensors underneath read the line and steer the wheels, so the track is whatever gets drawn rather than something bought in sections. It works on any flat surface with a strong enough line, which means one sheet of paper becomes a new layout every time. Switch it off and it goes back in a pocket.
