A domed cap sits on a flat flange that rests in the mouth of the waste, with a slotted cage hanging down below it. Pressing the cap down seals the opening, and pressing it again releases it so the water runs away. The cage catches hair before it reaches the pipe, and the whole insert lifts out by the cap for emptying and rinsing. It drops into the existing opening, so nothing is unscrewed and no plumbing is touched.
